Top 5 Reasons It Sucks to Be an Engineering Student

5. Awful Textbooks
Thick, dry, black and white manuscripts are rarely a source of inspiration and sometimes can cause loads of confusion. Often, the text is poorly written and interrupted by lengthy equations with symbols that are different from those used by the professor during lectures.
4. Professors are Rarely Encouraging
During each class, a professor that would rather be tending to his research will waltz up to a blackboard or overhead projector and scribble out equations for an hour without uttering a single sentence to create some excitement.
3. Dearth of Quality Counseling
College students may not have a sense for how to build their resume and they might be clueless about the variety of career opportunities that await them. Unfortunately, some academic advisers do little more than post fliers about internships and hand out a checklist of classes to take. They should make some projections about the future job market, learn about the interests of each young scholar, and offer them tailored advice for how to best prepare themselves.
2. Other Disciplines Have Inflated Grades
Brilliant engineering students may earn surprisingly low grades while slackers in other departments score straight As for writing book reports and throwing together papers about their favorite zombie films.
Some professors view undergraduate education as a type of natural selection, but their analogy is flawed. Many of the brightest students may struggle while mediocre scholars can earn top scores because they have a larger group of supportive friends to or more time to dedicate to studying.
1. Every Assignment Feels the Same
Nearly every homework assignment and test question is a math problem. Only a few courses require creativity or offer hands-on experience.

First day of classes

So I was walking around campus, trying to decide what to do between my spare time between classes. It’s to early for me to have work to do, so I found myself wandering. Then it hit me, it’s a good time to blog!
I can’t help but notice my age difference between the average students here. I’m in this were area where I’m older than traditional students, yet still much younger than the ‘returning professionals’ who I see walking around. It really impedes on the social aspect of college, but we all know I’m not here for social reasons.
I started out with my Personal Fitness class at 8am, we didn’t really do much the first day, but my professor talked to us like we were in fat camp. Well, I can’t imagine what they actually say in fat camp, but that’s how it felt. A little motivation doesn’t hurt though. I’m looking forward to buying my own food again. I know I’ll eat much more healthy food.  Anyone have suggestions on what I should pick up when I’m at the store later? I plan on buying a lot of yogurt! Then I guess lunch meat and bread? What’s a healthy filling lunch? I’m prone to just making sandwiches, but I’m open to ideas

My Engineering Life

  FM transmitter

Today,
I'm just gonna show you the FM transmitter that I made during my
EECE252 lab. This course is about signal and processing. We were given
two choice wheather to build FM transmitter or AM receiver. I chose to
build FM transmitter because FM is way cooler. huhu

Basically
the circuit is consist of input (microphone), mixer (BJT) and antenna
(wire). There is also a tuner (blue device) to tune the transmitter to
desired frequency.

FYI
FM signal consume huge bandwidth but as a trade off the signal is
almost imune to inteference while AM signal is vice versa.

This
is how it works: there is two different signals, one called information
signal and another is called carrier signal. The info signal which
contains our desired info i.e. voice, music, data etc. is then
modulated to the carrier signal which is basically a simple sinusoidal
wave range 88MHz to 108MHz (for standard FM radio spectrum) that carry
our info wirelessly accross the medium (air) to any radio (FM
receiver).

We
also learn the mathematics behind it. For FM, after modulation the
frequency respond has Bassel Function property and it is depends on the
modulation index which is entirely depends on the designed circuit. For
AM simply find the product of two wave function. Here calculus play a
big role.

So I did it within 45 minutes but only desparation I get. I tested it using a conventional radio but no sound coming out from it. I went home and try to troubleshoot it using multimeter but failed. Sigh!.... I saw others manage to tap the microphone and heard results on the radio which is so awesome. This is my first time building a real life FM transmitter (although I suck). Now I'm seeing my future as an electrical engineer become brighter and brighter. :)

Allahabad IIIT slaps fine on students for ragging

In a bid to stem ragging, the Indian Institute of Information Technology in Allahabad has slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 each on 19 female students for allegedly harassing the first year students.
"The action has been taken in view of the Supreme Court's judgement, whereby all centres of higher learning had been instructed to curb the menace of ragging by way of stringent and exemplary punishments," spokesman of the IIIT-A, Pankaj Mishra, said.
Mishra said that the matter came to light last week, when the warden of the girls' hostel Shveta Singh reported the matter to the IIIT-A Director MD Tiwari, who decided to impose a fine on the girls of BTech II year and withdraw scholarships of those among them who are getting it.
He, however, asserted that the alleged ragging incident "involved no physical or mental torture, a fact acknowledged by the warden herself" and that the girls, all of them students of BTech II year, while admitting to have called their juniors for a "chat" insisted that it was a "friendly matter".
Meanwhile, the IIIT-A administration has asked the freshers to come forward and put their side of the story.
"Depending on the feedback, further course of action may be decided", Mishra added.
All the 19 female students have been instructed to deposit their fines by August 14, he said.

Deoband

Deoband  is a city and a municipal board in Saharanpur district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located in the upper Doab region of Uttar Pradesh. Deoband used to be surrounded by dense forests, and was believed to be the abode of the Goddess Durga, according to one tradition this is where the town got its name, from Devi Van, or 'the Forest of the Goddess'. Others suggest that is derived from devi vandan, because the Goddess killed the Maha Asur Durg here, and was then worshipped here by many Devtas

A short sweet Story :- " THE Best Train Journey ever" !

Now what ?? She has gone off to sleep ! on one hand I am waiting for her to get up and on other I wish that i could continue seeing her like this for ever and ever :)...
dear Diary You must be thinking that I come to you only when I have no one around to tell something ,which I cannot digest alone.I apologize for that.

You know !! this is one of the best Train journey I’ve ever been through and I wish it never ends.
I can see her sleeping like a innocent child on the seat just in front of me. Its the cutest smile I have ever seen.
Why only in happens in a journey and that too when its least expected !

This is making me feel nervous !
Is it by chance or its some destiny that the guy near to me was reading “one night @ the call center”. I remember the girl which the author met
during his journey , told him the complete story. . . and I could also recall the story of 1 of my close senior who had a same experience in the train…. I remember reading it in his blog..
And now, it was again ….but this time the actors of the show were changed ….. …

Everything seemed perfect… everything .! Her long black hair with a tiny clutch not enough to hold them all , the extreme fair and glowing skin, her big grey eyes at which you could gaze for hours and hours without wasting any time in blinking, it is getting tough for me to take my eyes away for even for a second.
I never thought that today I was going to experience one of the GOD’s beautiful creations ,wearing gorgeous bluish-red suit. ;) and then penning this down sitting in front of her while seeing her snooze.
Aah… !!
At 5:00 pm when I was boarding the train ,I felt very alone as if something was missing.
Though I was going back home but the mere thought of leaving my dearest of friends was making me feel worse.

BUT, the moment I reached my seat “no.35 - lower birth”, all the old weird thoughts and feelings flew away like a pigeon who flies as soon as it finds the cage open.
My mind started making space for new thoughts and my heart – new feelings ;)
My thoughts changed their route and were making their path towards more “beautiful” and “sweet” destinations. Without wasting any more time I grabbed my seat ,adjusted my luggage and ‘TRIED’ to be comfortable. Now was the time to start some conversation ,but I could think of nothing at that moment .
She was there with her parents. I tried to think of something to start with but she was not letting me even think something. As when you see beautiful flower or scenery it feels to stop there at once and keep looking at it . The divine feeling ,the happiness that you get from that was the same with GOD’s this creation.Time had arrived when some ‘adrenalin’ like thing was needed which could work this out, as it was indeed an EMERGENCY .I needed some fast questions to throw upon them. Though I recalled later of some which were some of the best and simple ways to start any conversation but at that time I was completely BLANK!!.
Just when it seemed that my adrenalin had started working well and I was about to poke my nose In their conversation I had a hard look at a gentlemen who seemed to be her father. Its like natural to guys that before speaking to any girl and that too in front of her father most of them would try to confirm that he won’t give weird looks or a thrash if in any case something ‘immoral’ comes out from their mouth. I did the same. The moment I grabbed a look of him, It felt as if keeping your mouth shut is the best thing I should do in this situation. But still I wanted to give it a try. It was a long 9 hours journey and who knows . . . ?

When nothing seemed to be working well for me I started reading one of the books which I had with me . I would rather say that I ‘pretended’ to ;)!
While I was going through the book I realized that she was also looking at me occasionally. Though I know you would say that whenever any girls looks at a guy and gives a sweet smiles to him there is something or CAN be b/w them( this is what guys do think), but here there was no smile ,just a mere glance.
I was waiting for that look of her with a naughty smile and I kept waiting till It had been 3 hours and I was busy listening romantic songs which were the best ones for the moment.
I was enjoying them UNTIL someone poked me . I opened my eyes to see who was trying to take me out of the aroma of those romantic songs, and to my astonishment it was The ‘Father’ .Suddenly many questions startled my mind,I could feel my amplified heartbeat , I started wondering… did I do anything wrong ? But to my amaze “ beta, aapke paas nokia ka patli pin waala charger hai” ? ? ? he he spoke with a nice smile …What was that ??? huh…. I was relieved .But this time a simple “no” by me would have been the foolish thing I would have ever done. This was like the free gift which I GOT from him. I never looked back from then onward as if my heart and soul were longing for this particular moment to come. Initially I was a bit nervous and I don’t know why ? I’ve never been nervous before talking to new people . Slowly and slowly everything started going well. I came to know that her mother was a Principal and father was also some govt. employee. She was joining as a fresher in one of the Engineering colleges .

In no time everything became normal ,probably wearing my college T-shirt gave me an advantage this one single time. As they came to know that I was into my 3rd year, they started taking interest in everything I was saying. We all started sharing all lovely moments of our lives, as if we weren’t strangers.
More than half of the journey had passed . As we all were having a gala time, going off to sleep was the last option I would ever have chosen. But it was her dad and mom who went off to sleep and forced her too. But we were enjoying each other’s company so much that it looked as if she also never wanted to. At last when she started assembling her bed and finally was going to lye down we looked at each other. I could see in her eyes , she didn’t wanted to. Though she obeyed her father orders but was not able to sleep. Occasionally we looked at each other and passed smiles. This was getting better and much better than I ever expected. After trying for more than an hour she stood up .Though I knew she did not take a nap but still The ‘just out of the bed’ look was a killing one. How can one be so cute? After washing her face she came and sat down next to me. For a moment I was surprised, but she continued talking to me from the point we left. She showed me snaps of her and her sister’s childhood, the places they visited. I thought at once that it was all going very fast and far too. I had ONLY one fear that if anyone of her family member sees us chatting at this time of night, that too when most of the people are asleep, It would become the scariest night of my life. At least I feared from her father if not her. We continued to talk about each other’s friends , college life … and everything we possibly could.

But “JISKA darrr tha wahi hua “… !
He woke up. I had nothing to say to anyone. What possibly I could have said at this moment. I looked at her face and then her father and again and again. She stood up and went off to sleep quietly. Now I was wondering what next ? Would he scold me like anything or it would be something more ?.. something which I could have never thought off ? but just after giving me a weird long look he went off back to sleep. Ahhhh… what a sigh of relief it was !
The silence around may have forced him . whatever it was, it saved me !
And now I can see her sleeping right in front, with very special endearing smile on her face. I wish I could sit here forever. Its still 1:00 am 2 hours left for my station to come. Lets see what happens after this. hey diary I am feeling very sleepy now . I should better go off to sleep , I want to wake up before she leaves and . . . . . . . . .
Don’t worry diary agar mood hua toh fir milengey tumse .Thanks for being my friend who would listen to me without speaking a word...

!THE END OF PART ONE !

missing my home

I am missing my home away from home and all of my family on my dad's side.  I just have to share this with you because I spent lots of time up in these mountains...all over New Mexico, and the last trip I took with my dad to New Mexico cost us $6.00.  We hit the open road on his Honda and what an awesome trip it was!  I left Dodge City, KS, in shorts and we ended up wearing our biking gear.  I miss all of my family and this land runs in my veins because it's where a part of me is from.  It's calling me to come back and experience the beauty of it...and maybe get lost and never return!  Yes, I wish!  I am a mountain girl at heart, although I love the ocean too.  I'm sure if it came down to it, I'd pick the mountains any day.  I think the whole state of NM is awesome, but my favorite part is definitely the Enchanted Circle...really it's HWY 64 leading through the Cimarron Canyon and on to Eagle Nest and Angel Fire.  Dad used to drive us all over New Mexico every single trip we took...and told us all of the tales and always waited until the sun was setting to drive us through the ghost towns!  He never missed doing this drive and it was just a tradition.  Back then we always thought, "Oh no!  This again?"  Now I could only dream of going back there.  I miss it so much and haven't been there for fourteen years.  I just recently got in touch with some of my cousins and heard from an uncle that lives in California.  He has been sending me photos and family history and I am so happy to get to know him better!  I am really missing my second home more than ever.  I spent time there twice a year and we always stayed with my Aunt Mary in Maxwell, which is probably the smallest town I have ever seen!  I have relatives all over that state and in Colorado, too.  Denver was my home for a short time...and I loved it too!  I miss this place so much.
